Not normally seen at YCAB?

(a) The Good, the Bad and the Ugly?

L3 Instructor (and ex-RTO Operations QLD) John Clayton about to set-off for some solo soaring in Blanik YK. After carefully checking JC's pilot log book there was some initial discussion as to who should take JC for his "check-flight". Tony Sorensen and Barry McCarthy decided that it wasn't required ... however they apparently thought some pre-flight instructional advice from two generations of L2 instructors was!

(b) To Be or Not To Be (duty pilot)?

With volunteers in place to cover his Duty Pilot role, we encouraged Bernard "Speedy" Gonsalves to take his first flight in a Schneider ES-KA6 (VH-GRV) to test out its new "thermal seeking blue" nose. Very unusual to see Speedy in a K6 other than his orange-nosed Sleicher Ka6-Cr (VH-GSR). However the result was familiar ... despite it being a day where 20 minute flights in in the Blaniks were considered respectable, he came back to YCAB some 2.5 hours later and commented ... "she's no good, she won't stay up!"
